About Me

2161029_07-108My name is Liesl Watt and I qualified as a Body Control Pilates® Matwork Level 3 Teacher in September 2011 – ten years ago now! – as a Reformer teacher in November 2017 and as a Cadillac teacher in October 2020.

I was diagnosed with Scoliosis (curvature of the spine) at the age of 15 and suffered from severe pain and discomfort for many years.  I first started attending Pilates group matwork classes in 2000 when I moved to London from South Africa.  Pilates really helped to alleviate much of the pain and it helped to create a sense of awareness about my body and what I needed to do in order to manage the pain.  In 2004, I underwent major spinal surgery to correct my scoliosis.  As a result of the Pilates, which had helped to strengthen my muscles before the surgery, my recovery post-surgery was good. I recommenced Pilates as soon as my surgeon gave me the go-ahead, initially via private studio sessions and I then returned to group matwork classes.  In 2010, I decided to share my passion about the benefits of Pilates by training to become a qualified Pilates teacher.

I am a great believer in the power of Pilates.  It is a fantastic all-over body exercise for strengthening core muscles, improving flexibility and posture, and reducing stress and tension.  I also enjoy the fact that Pilates can be taken anywhere, whether that be to the office or on holiday.

I have completed the following additional training:

  • Back4Good® Practitioner
  • Reformer 1 (Beginners and Intermediates)
  • Cadillac 1 (Beginners)
  • Level 3 Bone Health (for those with Osteoporosis / Osteopenia)
  • Intermediate Matwork
  • Low Back Pain
  • Pilates for the Older Person
  • Antenatal and Postnatal Pilates
  • Healthy Necks
  • Pilates with the Band
  • Small Balls & Toning Circle
  • Anatomy Trains in Motion® Slings / Myofacsial Release
  • Franklin Method

I am a Supervising Teacher for trainee matwork students with Body Control Pilates®.

I am a member of the Register of Exercise Professionals, am CPR Certified, and I have an Enhanced DBS.

  1. Would like to do beginner class in Pilates but can only do evenings or Friday during the day. Live in Old Coulsdon.

  2. Hi,
I wanted to enquire about a couple of Pilates classes for my girlfriend.
She worlds as a dentist and her back is very tight.
As a result she has a lot of shoulder and neck pain which also give her headaches.
She has been recommended to attend Pilates classes.

Do you think you would be able to help as she is a beginner?
Could she attend a taster class this week?l, Mon-Wed eve?

  3. Hi, are you still wanting to do antenatal classes , as I would be interested. Failing that, are your Thursday evening classes at 18.45 still happening at Trinity School ?

    Many thanks.

    • Hi Jen,

Sincere apologies for only replying to your message today.

I don’t offer ante-natal only classes but where some of my clients have become pregnant I continue to teach them through their pregnancy.

I am happy to teach you in a mixed ability group matwork class (obviously adapting exercises to your needs), but sadly my 18h45 class at Trinity is currently full. Would you like me to put your name on the waiting list in the event any spaces come up for the next course (starting in June)?

      Kind regards,

  4. I am thinking off doing one of your classes I have recently had a blood clot in my arm which as resulted in a painfull arm just wondering how this will effect me.

    • Hi Linda,

Thanks so much for your enquiry and sorry to only get back to you today.

I am sorry to hear you’ve been suffering pain in your arm due to a blood clot. I would need to have your GP’s consent for you to join the classes as I would not want to exacerbate the condition. There are, however, many exercises that we do in classes that would not involve using your arm (and I can always adapt exercises for you if you need to avoid using your arm).
I would highly recommend doing a private induction session before joining a group class so that I can assess your movement and limitations. This sessions takes an hour-and-a-half and costs £50. You would complete a Client Enrolment Form, detailing any health and movement issues that you have, and we then discuss your goals and what you hope to achieve from the classes. I then teach you the basic exercise repertoire and tell you more about the key principles of Pilates. Please let me know if this interests you, and what your availability is.
Once you’ve done this session, we can discuss which class you’d like to join and I can check the availability.
If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. You can give me a call on 07719599256 or drop me a text and I’ll give you a call back.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

      Kind regards,

  5. Hi,

Do you still run your Pilates classes at St Johns during the day on a Thursday and if so could you confirm cost and timings and level. I have done a fair bit of Pilates before and would like a class to stretch me.
    Many thanks

  6. I’m interested in Pilates reformer classes. Can you please tell me when they run and how much per class. I have two other ladies that would like to join with me.

  7. Hi Liesl, could I have some more information please. I’d like to know prices venues and time-tables.
    Thanking you in anticipation, Sue.

    • Hi Sue
Thanks for your message. Sorry to only get back to you today; I’ve been away on holiday.
I’ve sent you an email to answer your questions.
      Kind regards,

  8. Hi Liesl
Please could I have some details regarding your evening sessions (beginner) in Old Coulsdon – dates and prices and availability etc.
    Many thanks, Lynn

  9. Hi I have just moved to Shirley side of Croydon and wonder if you have any intermediate classes as I have done Pilates for 10 years since a back injury.
Could you let me know your classes, cost and times.
    Thanks Ann

  10. I am really interested in enquiring. I suffer from back pain due to a lasting horse riding accident and would love to get more subtle and toned without causing damage to my body.
I go to the gym, but need a professional who has awareness of injuries and pains.

    • Hi Danielle
Thanks for your enquiry. I really hope that Pilates can help your back pain due to the riding accident. It will certainly improve your mobility and tone your muscles. The key is building up a strong core to support your back.
I’ll send you a separate email with details of my induction sessions and also private and group matwork classes.
      Kind regards,
